Nia Dinata, one of Indonesia’s most influential filmmakers, officially announced the production of Berbagi Suami: 20 Years Later, the follow-up to her award-winning 2006 film Berbagi Suami (Love for Share). The original film earned international recognition, including the Golden Maile Award for Best Feature Film at the Hawaii International Film Festival (USA) and Movie of the Year at the 2007 Guardians e-Awards.
Two decades after the film’s debut, Dinata—together with Kalyana Shira Films and Trois Films—returns with a new chapter that revisits the complexities of polygamy in modern society. Production is set to begin in early 2026, with script development completed in September 2025.
A Contemporary Look at Polygamy in the Digital Age
Berbagi Suami: 20 Years Later will explore how the dynamics of polygamy have evolved in today’s digital era, where privacy is blurred and public scrutiny is constant. Written and directed by Nia Dinata, the film presents three interwoven stories of women from different generations and backgrounds, reflecting today’s urban social landscape.
“In 2006, Berbagi Suami was created as a commentary on the rising conversation around polygamy and as a mirror for Indonesian women,” Dinata said. “Twenty years later, the topic remains deeply relevant, though its form and face have changed. Through Berbagi Suami: 20 Years Later, I want to show how women today navigate relationships, family roles, and self-confidence in a digital world where the line between private and public life is increasingly blurred.”
New Characters, New Conflicts, Familiar Emotional Depth
The 2026 version introduces three new protagonists—Kamila, Karina, and Kianti—whose lives intersect through unexpected events. Their stories blend humor, irony, and emotional warmth, elements that have long defined Nia Dinata’s storytelling.
International Spotlight on Indonesian Cinema
