An All Women Project Built by Women at Every Level
Many films center women in their stories. Desember Jani goes a step further by making that commitment part of its entire creative process.
The film is truly an All Women Project, with nearly every key creative role led by women, both in front of and behind the camera.
The creative team includes:
- Ariani Darmawan Returns to the director’s chair for this deeply personal family drama.
- Cyntha Hariadi The acclaimed novelist makes her feature screenwriting debut with Desember Jani.
- Meiske Taurisia Serves as producer, continuing her long collaboration with Palari Films on a number of acclaimed Indonesian productions.
- Luna MayaJoins the project as Executive Producer, describing Desember Jani as a heartfelt film that brings a fresh and distinctive warmth to Palari Films’ growing body of work.
Why Did Luna Maya Join the Project?
According to Luna Maya, she was drawn to the project because of Palari Films’ strong reputation for producing high quality Indonesian films that have earned recognition both in local cinemas and at international film festivals.
She also expressed pride in becoming part of a production where the creative vision is overwhelmingly shaped by women.
More Than Just a Family Drama
Producer Meiske Taurisia believes Desember Jani was born from concerns that feel deeply relevant today.
In the digital age, people can communicate with anyone, anywhere.
Ironically, the hardest conversations often happen inside our own homes.
That is why the film invites families to rediscover the importance of listening to one another.
Director Ariani Darmawan adds that Desember Jani is not about a perfect family.
It is about a family that is still willing to keep trying.
Filmed Entirely in Bandung
The entire production took place in Bandung, a city that became an essential part of the film’s creative identity.
For that reason, the teaser trailer launch and the premiere of the Kopi Kaleng music video were held at ForkSteel, a restaurant from Bandung’s Fork ecosystem that has recently expanded to Jakarta.
The collaboration was chosen because both the film and the venue share the same spirit of creativity and community.
Palari Films Has a Proven Track Record
If the name Palari Films sounds familiar, it is because the production house has become one of Indonesia’s most respected studios, producing films that have earned both critical acclaim and international recognition.
Some of its most notable titles include:
- Posesif
- Aruna dan Lidahnya
- Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens
- Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas, winner of the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival
- Dear David
- Kabut Berduri, which reached Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non English Films
