Bandit, the latest Indonesian action thriller, has won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature at the 29th edition of the prestigious Dances With Films Festival, held in Los Angeles, California, on June 28, 2026 (local time).
The award marks the culmination of an outstanding festival run for Bandit. During its official screening on June 26, the film drew a full house, selling out its Los Angeles premiere and captivating audiences with its gripping suspense and striking visuals.
Director Brian L. Tan and cinematographer Austin Ahlborg attended the ceremony in person to accept the award, expressing their gratitude and pride for the recognition from the international jury.
In his acceptance speech, Brian L. Tan shared the vision behind the film.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to receive this award. We made Bandit to offer a fresh perspective on an island that is admired around the world for its beauty. Through this film, we wanted to ask a simple question: what if reality isn't as beautiful as it seems?"

Produced through a collaboration between Adaptif Films, Aufklärung Pictures, Viking Sunset Studios, and Naga Film, Bandit reimagines Bali’s globally recognized image as a tranquil tropical paradise, revealing a darker and more suspenseful side beneath its postcard-perfect beauty.
Directed by Brian L. Tan, known for Murder Below Deck, the film delivers an adrenaline-fueled cinematic experience elevated by Austin Ahlborg’s world-class cinematography. The screenplay is written by Husein M. Atmodjo, the acclaimed writer behind the hit film Stealing Raden Saleh (Mencuri Raden Saleh) and Pertaruhan: The Series.

Synopsis
When Gatra’s pregnant wife suffers life-threatening medical complications, desperation forces him back into a life of crime. He steals a car with the help of his former partner, Tiar, believing it to be a quick and easy job.
Their escape soon spirals into a nightmare after they discover a mutilated corpse and a handgun hidden inside the mysterious vehicle.
Now hunted by the car’s ruthless and vengeful owner, Gatra and Tiar are thrust into a brutal overnight fight for survival. Dawn is their only chance of making it out alive—if they live long enough to see it.
