First Look at the Chilling Scenes from the Mystery Horror Film Whispers of Gringsing Village
The first Indonesian horror film to utilize Virtual Production (VP) technology and a world-class LED volumetric stage through an international production collaboration between Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Jakarta, July 10, 2026 – Following the release of its first-look stills on social media in May and the teaser poster unveiled last week, Mandela Pictures and Oceanus Media Global (OMG Studios) today revealed the first footage from their latest feature, Whispers of Gringsing Village.
Through a first-look video lasting under one minute, audiences are introduced to a terrifying moment experienced by the film’s protagonist, Hesti, portrayed by Aghniny Haque, during her first encounter with Fatimah, played by Fatmah Nadhi—the mysterious spirit haunting the residents of Gringsing Village. The video also announces the film’s theatrical release date: September 24, 2026, in cinemas across Indonesia.
Directed by Ivander Tedjasukmana, this mystery horror feature is an international co-production between Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Whispers of Gringsing Village is also the first Indonesian horror film to employ Virtual Production (VP) technology, creating the village’s eerie atmosphere—from fog-covered roads and ominous village landscapes to supernatural visions—with cinematic precision that is difficult to achieve through conventional filmmaking techniques.
The film is also the first Indonesian feature to utilize a world-class LED volumetric stage, where actors perform in front of high-resolution LED screens displaying photorealistic digital environments in real time. This innovative approach aims to deliver a groundbreaking cinematic experience for Indonesian horror audiences.
“It is a great honor to be entrusted with a film project that utilizes Virtual Production technology. Whispers of Gringsing Village presented a completely new challenge—not only for me, but also for the cast and nearly every member of the production team. Fortunately, Mandela Pictures and OMG Studios assembled an extraordinary team of highly skilled professionals whose dedication allowed us to overcome every challenge. I hope audiences will feel the results of all our hard work when they experience the film in theaters,” said director Ivander Tedjasukmana.
Whispers of Gringsing Village follows HESTI (Aghniny Haque), a young woman searching for her missing father. Her search leads her to a remote village called Gringsing, where she becomes trapped in the terrifying haunting of FATIMAH (Fatmah Nadhi), the restless spirit that has long terrorized the village.
“Playing Hesti in this film marked my first experience acting in a production that uses Virtual Production technology. On one hand, it was exciting because multiple locations could be recreated within a single stage. On the other hand, it introduced an entirely different set of challenges. It required new techniques and a different acting approach, which ultimately gave me the opportunity to explore new dimensions of my craft,” said Aghniny Haque, who plays Hesti.
Whispers of Gringsing Village stars Aghniny Haque, Surya Saputra, Kiki Narendra, Iskak Khivano, Hesti Putri, Nina Tamam, Fatmah Nadhi, Iyang Darmawan, Akun Gege, and Mian Tiara. The film is currently in its final post-production stage and will open in Indonesian cinemas on September 24, 2026, followed by releases in Malaysia, Singapore, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan.
