The company has already backed two Indonesian horror films as executive producer:
- Cerita Lila, which attracted more than one million admissions in Indonesian cinemas.
- Pemikat Jiwa, currently playing in theaters and continuing to build momentum.
“The first one, Cerita Lila, was successful. Pemikat Jiwa is slowly climbing. I think it can do quite well too, but we’ll continue watching how Indonesian audiences respond,” Melwani said during a recent media interview.
Horror Remains the Safest Bet
While Hollywood continues experimenting with franchise reboots, Indonesia’s horror genre has become one of the country’s most reliable box office performers.
SHOW Token sees that trend as more than a coincidence.
According to Melwani, horror films based on local myths, folklore, and real-life beliefs create stories that Indonesian audiences immediately recognize, making the genre an ideal starting point for investment.
Its upcoming projects continue that strategy, including Sihir Tanah Kubur, a horror film inspired by cultural beliefs from Banyuwangi, East Java.
“The audience here loves horror. Supporting local horror films means supporting the local film industry itself,” Melwani explained.
From Local Box Office to Global Screens
SHOW Token’s ambition extends well beyond Indonesian cinemas.
The company revealed that Cerita Lila will soon expand into another Southeast Asian market, while Sihir Tanah Kubur is already being prepared for wider international distribution.
Malaysia has become one confirmed destination, with additional international territories expected to follow.
Because SHOW Token operates globally, Melwani says the company wants to bridge three communities that rarely overlap:
- traditional moviegoers,
- Generation Z audiences,
- and the global crypto community.
“We want to bring Indonesian movies onto the global stage,” he said.
Beyond Theaters: Festivals and Streaming
International expansion doesn’t stop at cinemas.
SHOW Token plans to submit its films to both local and international film festivals while simultaneously building partnerships with OTT streaming platforms.
The strategy is designed to create multiple revenue streams for filmmakers, allowing Indonesian productions to continue earning long after their theatrical releases.
For independent producers, the company hopes this ecosystem will make it easier to secure funding while also opening doors to global streaming services.
A New Model for Film Financing
Unlike traditional investors, SHOW Token envisions a blockchain-based platform where everyday supporters can participate in Indonesia’s entertainment industry.
The company says its upcoming application will allow users to support production houses, directors, and creative projects directly, creating a new funding ecosystem for local content creators.
“Our goal is helping Indonesian production houses and directors. We want more people to participate in supporting local entertainment,” Melwani said.
Not Just Horror
Although horror remains the company’s strongest focus today, SHOW Token says its upcoming slate will become much more diverse.
Future releases are expected to include:
- horror-comedy,
- pure comedy,
- drama,
- drama-comedy,
- a film centered on cryptocurrency,
- and a Generation Z drama adapted from a bestselling novel.
The company also plans to expand beyond feature films into television series, live entertainment, and even book publishing.
Why This Matters Internationally
Indonesia is no longer just producing horror films that dominate its domestic box office.
Companies like SHOW Token are betting that Indonesian stories—particularly those rooted in local culture, folklore, and social issues—can travel internationally with the right financing, marketing, and distribution strategy.
