Jakarta, Indonesia — January 26, 2026 — Tempo officially held the Tempo Film Festival 2026 at Graha Bhakti Budaya, Ismail Marzuki Park, Jakarta, marking the culmination of Tempo Film Selection (Film Pilihan Tempo) 2025, an annual program dedicated to recognizing excellence in Indonesian cinema.
The festival brought together filmmakers, artists, critics, and cultural figures to celebrate Indonesian films released in 2025 that demonstrate strong storytelling, artistic integrity, and diverse thematic perspectives.
Recognizing Excellence in Indonesian Cinema
Ahead of the event, Tempo announced nominees across multiple categories, including Featured Supporting Actress, Featured Supporting Actor, Featured Lead Actress, Featured Lead Actor, Featured Screenplay Writer, Featured Director, Featured Film, Audience’s Choice Featured Film, and the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Tempo Film Selection 2025 was curated by a jury panel composed of Tempo arts journalists and independent film professionals, ensuring an objective and comprehensive evaluation process.
For the first time, the festival introduced the Audience’s Choice Featured Film category, expanding public participation and acknowledging films that resonate strongly with viewers.
Tempo’s Longstanding Role in Film Curation
Arif Zulkifli, CEO of Tempo Media Group, emphasized Tempo’s historical role in shaping critical discourse around Indonesian cinema.
“Tempo has curated and reviewed Indonesian films for decades. The Tempo Film Festival was first introduced in 2017, paused during the pandemic, and resumed in 2024. This year marks the second edition since its return,” he said.
Jury Perspective and Selection Criteria
The Tempo Film Selection 2025 jury consisted of Leila S. Chudori, Nurman Hakim, and Sugar Nadia. The jury evaluated films screened in both theaters and streaming platforms.
According to Leila S. Chudori, films selected by Tempo are those that demonstrate creative freedom, strong integration of cinematic elements, and compelling storytelling.
Nurman Hakim noted that the nominated films represent a wide range of themes and forms, while Sugar Nadia highlighted that award-winning films must leave a lasting cultural and emotional impact.
